5th December- 5:15-6:00 p.m. Lecture Hall I, Institute of Biochemistry: Lecture on 2024 Nobel Prizes in Chemistry and Physiology or Medicine
The recent Nobel prize in Chemistry was awarded to David Baker "for computational protein design“, to Demis Hassabis and John Jumper „for computational structure prediction“ and the Nobel prize in Physiology or Medicine to Victor Ambros and Gary Ruvkun „for the discovery of microRNA and its role in post-transcriptional gene regulation“.
The tools developed by these researchers have far reaching and fundamental implications for basic research, applied science and a variety of applications in biotechnology, medicine and material science.
This lecture will summarize the developments in protein structure prediction, protein design and the concept of microRNA to honor the recent nobel prize winners.
