In a joint effort of scientists from Nanjing Tech University together with Prof. Uwe Schröder, Dr. Ren Wei (junior research group leader within my group) from our Institute, we have developed a method to turn PET waste into a valuable resource as just published in Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., see here. This one-pot biocatalysis process uses the best currently known PET-ase LCC-ICCG, which now efficiently converts 84% of PET waste at 200 g/L into solid hydrated calcium terephthalate (CaTP*H2O), perfectly suited for creating anodes in lithium batteries. These batteries have an initial capacity of 164.2 mAh/g, making them a powerful and eco-friendly solution.
