The most recent publication from the Schlundt lab in collaboration with the Rief lab at TU Munich yields insight into folding pathways of an mRNA 3'UTR regulatory hub. We also show how the mRNA-degrading protein Roquin interacts with different parts of the RNA during folding and is able to distinguish stabilizing and destabilizing roles. This shows how RNA target specificity for function is more than pure sequence or structure, but includes the dynamics of the forming complex.
